Brian P. Smith is senior director of mission integration and leadership formation for the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA). Previously, he served as the Vice President of Mission Integration for the CHRISTUS Spohn Health System, a six hospital regional health system, based in Corpus Christi, Texas and a member of CHRISTUS Health. Prior to that, Brian was the Vice President of System Mission at Mount Carmel-St. Ann’s Hospital, part of the Mount Carmel Health System, in Columbus, OH, a member of Trinity Health.
Brian has a diverse professional background. After completing a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration at St. Louis University, he worked as federal auditor with the Government Accountability Office. Following his completion of a Masters of Arts in Divinity and a Masters of Arts in New Testament Scripture from Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis, MO, he served fifteen years in parish ministry. He completed a M.S. in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis in child and adolescent development, while working for the Department of Special Education of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Working in Mission Services in Catholic healthcare for the last 10 years has allowed Brian to integrate all aspects of his education and work experience: theology, pastoral care, mental health, political advocacy, and accountability.
He has offered CME programs to physicians on ethical issues at the end of life and has offered days of renewal for physicians and physician assistants centered on personal calling, service and self-care.
