Malcolm Herring served for 32 years as a practicing vascular surgeon and for 10 of those years in the Seton Cove Spirituality Center at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. He contributed extensive research in the area of vascular grafting and graft endothelialization.
He served on the Council to the Association for Academic Surgery, as the President of the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society, on the Editorial Board of the Annals of Vascular Surgery and as a co-founder of the Coalition for Physician Well-Being. He was designated a Distinguished Physician and served on the Boards of Directors for the St. Vincent Hospital and the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation. He completed the Epiphany Certification Program in spiritual formation from which he developed over 22 programs, helping hundreds of physicians from around the world find fulfillment and mission alignment. One of those programs, Physician Outreach Network, was recently awarded the Living the Mission Award by Ascension Health.
He consults with hospitals and clinics who want to foster a culture of mutual care and compassion in their medical staff, help their physicians experience fulfillment in their work and help their patients meet God in their healing. He has recently published The Physician Champion, a book full of ideas for your medical staff. Malcolm travels widely in response to invitations to speak on physician and spirituality issues.
